WHAT PROFESSIONALS AND CASUAL RIDERS HAVE TO SAY ABOUT HORSE QUENCHER :
"I don't often rave about a new product but this one is amazing. One of our horses never drinks enough water, especially when we are away from home. I have tried sliced apples in the water to tempt her but even if she is sweating she turns her nose up at it. The first time I offered her Horse Quencher I expected the same reaction but she drank and drank until the whole bucket was empty, and then wanted more. It's such a relief to know that they will drink after exercise, and especially when they are away from home as it means they recover so much quicker. I now give it as a special treat when I want to spoil them, and it is so amusing to watch them drink it with such gusto!"
Christine Winter, Mara Lodge
"I gave my three ponies Horse Quencher first thing this morning as their water buckets had frozen solid in the night. As I thought, the Falabella didn't hesitate and had his head in his bucket for about 10 minutes, our little mare tucked in straight away too. Our largest pony, that doesn't drink at shows, walked away initially until I held the bucket for him waist-high, as you suggested, then he slurped away and kept curling up his nose and then finished the lot.
"It was very quiet this morning apart from birdsong and a lot of slurping noises!
"Fantastic success with all three of mine and a lovely treat for horses after a hard day’s competing or during icy weather, they drank half a bucket each straight away. Congratulations on a superb product."
Tina May, Oxfordshire
"Whenever I travel with my horses I worry that they won't drink enough. Thankfully, with Horse Quencher I had one less thing to worry about on the long flights to the UK and Hong Kong for the Olympic Games. McKinlaigh drank like a champ! Horse Quencher will definitely travel with us from now on."
Gina Miles, American event rider and Olympic Silver Medallist
"Horse Quencher is simply a brilliant addition to any endurance rider's equipment and undoubtedly was a huge benefit in our success in 2009. Bull has always avoided drinking for 25-30kms no matter what concoctions we offered him but since using Horse Quencher, he simply cannot resist and will drink whenever it is offered. I believe this has effectively kept everything so much more in balance, he has finished even strenuous events looking fresh and without any loss of condition, and therefore it has been so much easier to go on to the next competition with confidence and conviction! Thank you for introducing me to this fabulous product!"
Thay Stephenson, 2009 Supreme Champion, Endurance GB
"A couple of eagerly awaited sachets turned up in the post today and I couldn’t wait to try them out. I was going to wait until we were next out on our travels but Lucinda (quite rightly) pointed out that I should try them at home first.
"It was P who thought he’d take a look first (hardly surprising the gannet) and it was very comical, as expected. He thought it was a tub of food and when he realised it wasn’t, went to walk away. However, obviously getting a waft – he did such a real ‘double take’ before proceeding to lick it (a lot!) before dunking his nose right in! Toki downed it almost in one. Looks like we won’t be leaving home without Horse Quencher tucked into our travel bag!"
Cate Ashton, Manage-My-Horse
"Horse Quencher is by far the best product I have ever used. To be able to prove the well-known saying 'You can take a horse to water but you can't make it drink' wrong is quite exceptional! And although I was sceptical at first, I now trust Horse Quencher implicitly. Not only can it be used as a daily product keeping horses healthy and hydrated but if you do have an ill horse that desperately needs water (when animals are in pain drinking is not their first thought) Horse Quencher can make them drink and help them to recover. "The most common time I use HQ is at events. If your horses are anything like mine, they refuse to drink at an event when there is so much going on. But since I have used HQ they prick their ears and look encouragingly at the bucket of water and HQ. My greedy horses drink the whole bucket to get to the tasty treat at the bottom! And my fussier horses lick the water down to get to the yummy treat too! Either way they are all getting much-need fluid into their systems when they are out and about competing, without which their health and performance would suffer. "Horse Quencher is such a handy product, it's so easy to use, and can be carried with you anywhere.
"
Alice Pearson, British Junior and Young Rider Eventing Squad Member
"OMG, Horse Quencher is incredible! My boys are fighting over it and almost eating the bucket when it's gone! Just like your video, the noises they make sucking the treat up is incredible! Great product, thanks for creating this for our beloved horses."
Ciao, Laura Manno
"Urlando (Tucker to his friends) is a Dutch warmblood working at Prix St George level and with Grand Prix talent, but he has always failed to drink or pee at a show and this became a real problem last year resulting in a serious dip in energy levels.
"At the 2009 Addington Summer Regionals we stabled away and despite my best efforts Tucker did little more than splash about in his water buckets, and as it was about 80 degrees, he became very dehydrated. He performed an adequate test but way below his usual ability. He is normally a very forward-going and energetic horse so to have him feeling lethargic and flat was not good, and he was obviously distressed.
"After his test he had a couple of hours to relax in his stable before a two-hour journey home in great heat. He was quite a poorly chap by the time he got home and took several weeks to fully recover.
"I read about your wonderful product on a website. I followed the instructions to the letter on the Horse Quencher leaflet and Tucker dived straight in and downed the lot. Brilliant!
"I now use the product every day after exercise so that he looks forward to it as his treat, and at a show this Saturday – our first attempt at Advanced – which he won – he drank both before (just a few mouthfuls) and after, the rest of the bucket.
"It is an enormous relief to know that I can now avoid the problems of last summer and am looking forward to heading onward and upward with him having already qualified for this year’s Summer Regionals at Advanced Medium. He even pee-ed in the lorry when no one was looking, which is a first!
"It's a great product and I can't recommend it highly enough. Thank you."
Olly Barrs and Urlando
"I saw an ad for Horse Quencher and despite being a complete sceptic I emailed them to see if I could try one sachet of each flavour. My horse never drinks at competitions and in the cold, his water intake dropped dramatically. If you offer him a bucket of water he just lifts his head and stares into the middle distance, in an aloof “if I ignore her she'll go away" kind of attitude.
"I stuck the sachet into half a bucket of water and left it whilst I got his feed and haylage ready. Then I went up to the field and offered him the bucket. Now I wish I'd taken a video camera. First he stuck his nose in straight away and took a couple of slurps. I was encouraged by this (I'm not sure he's ever drunk from a bucket I was holding before), and stuck it under his nose again. At which point he decided it was delicious, drank the lot straight down with barely a pause for breath and ate the handful of stuff at the bottom. To say I was gob smacked was an understatement! I would never have believed it had I not tried it.
"I am a complete convert and this is now an essential item in my lorry for the eventing season."
Tily Tilbrook, Bristol
"Well I no longer have to take your word for it -- the Horse Quencher went down a treat, quite literally. We brought Lilly and Puzzle up to the yard from the fields at the weekend and tried the bucket test with one full of water and the other with the Horse Quencher mixture. No contest, both horses just plunged straight in and then looked for more. I want to thank you for this opportunity to try the product."
Linda Warburton, Sussex
"We recommend Horse Quencher in our equine practice. When we get a really cold snap we will have several horses with colic. The normal cause of colic after a cold snap is an impaction. This may be because the horse has been confined and has eaten a large amount of straw bedding. Another cause can be that the horse does not drink enough. Horse Quencher is a new, very useful product, it is ideal to help your horse to drink enough in cold weather."
Graham Duncanson, Westover Veterinary Centre Large Animal and Equine Unit
"Horse Quencher has had an amazing response with our pony. Captain is now drinking in his stable, much to our relief. Captain is recovering from three successive stomach impactions which have occurred over the last two months and getting him to drink has been impossible, the only way to keep him hydrated was with tubing by the vet. No matter what we and our vets tried to tempt him to drink, nothing worked - until Horse Quencher water came towards his stable and with much excitement by both pony and owner, yes, he was mighty keen for a drink. That first night he drank a good half bucket and it didn’t take much persuasion for him to begin to drink again. He now drinks a bucket a night and sometimes a bit more. I have also noticed that over the last 3-4 days he is drinking more and taking a 'glug' from water tanks in the fields, I feel Horse Quencher is helping with this and maybe teaching him to drink, or feel the need to drink, again.
"Another interesting note, the pony in the stable next to Captain, is forty years young and only drinks out in the field. Passing his stable with Horse Quencher he was desperate to have a taste! He guzzled what was on offer and sure liked the treat at the bottom!
"The use of Horse Quencher is the reason why Captain started to drink. He still does not drink the tap water in his bucket which is still on offer.
"I hope this product can help other horses to recover and prevent illness, it is another tool to try, we had run out of ideas. I am so glad my daughter typed into Google - 'How to make horses drink.'"
Anita Binns, West Yorkshire
"Wow, this really works! I have to admit to being sceptical having tried, I thought, everything to make my highly suspicious mare drink when away from home; apple juice, blackcurrant squash, sugar beet water - nothing has convinced her. Today I tried Horse Quencher on all three of my horses when they shouldn't have been thirsty, they had not been exercised, and had not had their regular water withheld. It caused a riot between the Trakehner gelding and the ancient pony - they simply couldn't drain the bucket fast enough. Suspicious mare, Finn curled her top lip and looked as if I was trying to poison her, but when left with the bucket for five minutes I returned to find it almost empty. I will definitely be keeping a supply of these sachets in my lorry and look forward to worry-free camping and competing from now on. I also like the idea that no big investment is needed to find out if it will work on your horse."
Wendy Searle, Devon
"I used Horse Quencher on our Hackney stallion that will not drink any water other than water from home or bottled water, Buxton Spring! He is competing at horse driving trials and we compete all year round and he is very fussy and does not like to drink whilst he is away from home. The first time I used Horse Quencher he was a little apprehensive and then drank it all up. I have used it on him a few times since and he is drinking much better whilst away at competitions.
"I will definitely be getting some more Horse Quencher to take to competitions this summer when we stay away for a few days as the product encourages Paddy to drink strange water and enables me to lighten my load in the lorry as I will not have to carry water from home."
Sam Kelly and Stapleford Enchantment (Paddy)
"I have owned Ted for three years and on the many occasions when we have been away from the yard for rides, no matter how hot or thirsty he must be, I have never been able to persuade him to drink. All that changed when I met Lucinda at a local ride and she offered him a bucket of mint Horse Quencher. He couldn't get his head in the bucket quickly enough. He drank happily just as he does at home from his drinker. It's amazing and so easy to make up. We never travel anywhere without it and it has now removed my final worry about going places with him."
Julie Strudwick, Ely
"I have been looking after a horse who was not drinking a lot and making himself unwell in the process. We tried all sorts of different things to get Louis’s fluid intake up, from soaking his hay to feeding him sloppy feed. I then remembered a sachet of Horse Quencher that I had been given by a work colleague. I tried it on Louis and he loved it and drank it all up and was licking the bucket for more! We were so pleased with how he took to it that we contacted Lucinda at Horse Quencher and she was able to get a tub of it to us within 24 hours which was wonderful. He has since been having Horse Quencher every day and it has been so good to see him drinking it up. I would definitely recommend Horse Quencher to anyone that has problems with their horse not drinking much water."
Sam, Helen and Louis
We use Horse Quencher when new horses arrive at the farm from trainers for rehabilitation or holidays. Horses that go to the sales to be sold, or those who are purchased from the sales, may spend time at the farm.
"We use Horse Quencher when horses have undergone surgery and return to us from hospital. At these times the horses can be unsettled for a few days, often going off their food and water. Horse Quencher has been excellent in helping to reduce the risk of impaction colic, a very costly and distressing condition.
"Horse Quencher is easy to prepare and the sachets are handy for using when travelling for one or two horses. The larger buckets work out more economical for the larger yards with more horses.
"The hydration of horses when travelling can be overlooked and Horse Quencher will assist those who reduce their fluid intake while being transported nationally and internationally.
"In a nutshell Horse Quencher has helped whenever the horses have a change of routine, or environment, when moving from trainers to the farm, for pre-and-post sales, for travelling and while recovering from injury and confined to the box."
Denis O'Brien, Assistant Manager Shadwell Stud
"Excited and stressed horses do not usually choose to drink; as a veterinary surgeon and rider I usually find that this is when their fluid needs are at their highest, i.e., after strenuous exercise such as hunting or eventing; during long work such as endurance or long pleasure rides; after surgery, either under sedation or general anaesthetic; during and after recovery from colic of almost all causes; during any management change i.e., staying at shows or sales; low grade exercise in extremely hot weather.
"Encouraging drinking during these periods can be frustrating and failure to achieve reasonable hydration status during periods of increased need can have severe health consequences.
"I was introduced to Horse Quencher by endurance rider Lucinda Stapleton as a product that could truly "make horses drink! It is not a miracle worker, instructions have to be followed to ensure that the horses are familiar with it, and that it is made up to the correct volume, and for long enough before presentation. But they really drink it!
"I personally use it for my hunters before the long journey home, they would always refuse fluid before and then drink huge quantities at home; all surgical patients are introduced to it before surgery so that they will actively drink afterwards reducing the "bunging" effect of surgery as fluid intake increases gut motility; for colic patients especially those with colonic impactions where one of the classic problems is their refusal to drink.
"This product can truly help in those situations where horses need fluid but for whatever reason will not drink."
David Scott, Senior Partner Isle Veterinary Practice
"I used your product with my younger horse at home, with much success as he has never taken any water when at a competition previously. After introducing him to Horse Quencher, by putting some in his water bucket at home the night before a show, he then drank freely and enthusiastically on the horsebox at the show, which was a successful first for him and makes me very pleased, as dehydration can cause such loss of performance, quite apart from being bad for health. I shall continue to use Horse Quencher with this horse, and if you want to quote me on that, please do."
Debby Lush, List One British Dressage judge and registered BD Trainer
"Anyone who knows me knows that I don't 'do' extras and gimmicks, but Elaphine Murphy, owned and bred by Sally Fuller Lewis, refuses to drink whilst on the horse box. I have known Murphy since he was an 'egg' (!) and he has never drunk when away. I have resorted to taking apples with me so that he just gets something. We competed in the newly introduced Mountain and Moorland WHP classes at the Suffolk County Show 2010 and in the sweltering heat we won our class and went Champion! Back at the lorry Murphy, as usual, wouldn't drink and I had forgotten to take any apples. I had been given a sachet of Horse Quencher which had sat at the bottom of the cupboard for ages and felt this was the moment to try it, although with very little expectation. However, Murphy lapped at the water like a dog and then proceeded to drink half a bucket!! We all stood very still in case we put him off! But he was well away and 10 minutes later drank another half a bucket! I was then fighting the dog, Ugly, off the water as well! So I didn't have to go home straight home or try and find an apple stall at the show! I will never go to a show now without a tub of Horse Quencher on the lorry and Murphy will be able to cope with the heat, although I may still take some apples if he is going to win! "
Julia Spacey, Mountain and Moorland Judge and Competitor, Cambridgeshire
""I tried five horses on Horse Quencher and all of them loved it. They are drinking whenever the HQ is offered which is brilliant in this hot weather or when travelling them as before it has always been difficult to ensure that they are rehydrated at the end of a long day. Two of my dressage horses loved all of the flavours but my husband's horse, Major, definitely preferred the butterscotch to all the others. It has made a big difference to them all."
Sarah Jane Prew, Editor Just Dressage Magazine
""Well I have to say that this is the first product that I have ever purchased that really does live up to its claims and testimonials. Seeing is believing and I was astounded!! I have 2 horses and their Shetland pony companion, whilst they were all still in their stables I half filled a yellow bucket with water and offered it to each of them in turn to which none of them showed any interest. I then added the sachet of mint Horse Quencher, gave it a stir and re-offered it to them. After an initial 2 second sniff, the first horse stuck her head in and slurped away, I struggled to get her head out of the bucket!! The other two both responded in exactly the same way, I was amazed! The following two days the exact same thing happened with the root beer and butterscotch flavours. I saved the apple flavour to try on my mare after a cross country schooling session and although away from home, she responded in exactly the same way, this product is an absolute godsend for this reason alone! I will be placing an order shortly for more Horse Quencher as it will be invaluable in cold frosty conditions, at least I know I will be able to keep my horses hydrated. Wow!! I really can't speak highly enough of your product, but there again, once tried it speaks for itself! PS. I now need to keep the yellow bucket hidden as the mere sight of it creates huge excitement among the equines!!!"
Yvonne Ashburner, Bracken (the mare), Mathew and George (the shettie)
"I bought Horse Quencher after a bad colic. I really do think you should be twittering and face booking to spread the message. I use less than you recommend in lukewarm water and make sure he has at least one drink. He loves it and plays around with it. The problem is convincing the yard managers to use it when I'm not there. If you have not had this problem it is so easy to dismiss it. After all they only call the vet they don't spend the nights up nor pay the vet bills. I also used it on a couple of hot days at shows because he never drinks enough – in my opinion, he clearly thinks differently. I am very pleased to be using this product as part of keeping him hydrated and even colder weather is forecast. You must shout out as loudly as you can in your marketing – because this is about horse welfare!"
Jo Jones, snowy Kent
"I tried the two samples of Horse Quencher out yesterday. You gave me butterscotch and root beer, which I must admit sounded so nice I could have eaten it myself! I don't mind confessing that I am a real sceptic and a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to feeding, so not many new products impress me that much. However I don't mind admitting when I am wrong. Having followed the instructions and filled up a bucket and went out for a hack for an hour or so, I came back and decided to test your product, before I had even got my mares saddle off her head was in the Butterscotch one, she was smacking her lips and diving back in for more!!! She then tried the Root Beer which she wasn't as keen on, probably because she had guzzled the butterscotch like a pig, however the Shetland then came trotting over and finished it off so I can honestly say that whatever you have invented they absolutely love! Both of them are like camels, they can go for days without drinking much water, so I am over the moon I have now found that I can use Horse Quencher when I need to encourage them to drink more."
Jane Hendy, Equine Canine and Country Life Magazine
"I cannot believe I have found a product that will make my horse drink! Yesterday I had to call the vet out as an emergency as I suspected my horse, Albert, had colic (he's 25 but regularly competes in all disciplines). The vet confirmed an impaction. I knew I need to get fluids into Albert and the vet gave me 2 sachets of Horse Quencher to try. For the first time in the 11 years I have had Albert, he drank with enthusiasm. Thankfully the impaction was caught early enough and recovery has been relatively swift. I have just purchased a tub of Horse Quencher from my local saddlery (as the veterinary practice had sold out). I can now formulate a plan to ensure Albert has appropriate fluid intake on a daily basis. Once again thank you for your marvelous product - I look forward to trying out the different flavours - so far Albert's enjoyed apple and peppermint!
Jillian Gladden, Marsham
"I look after a couple of Eventers as well as keeping our own two hairy munchkin natives at home and with the freezing weather, I had been paying extra special attention to the TBs - ensuring they were suited and booted on turnout, fed more succulents, cut back on the whizzy hard feed and of course, I fed the ponies extra hay, knowing they would need the fibre and the extra grub for warmth, obsessively cleared frozen troughs and carted buckets of warm water from the house - and made sure everyone had even more than their usual winter succulents with hard feed.
Then just last week our adored native pony, Hopi, had impaction colic. This is a pony that is never sick or sorry and in fourteen years has not once been under the weather.
Hopi showed text book signs of colic and I called the vet. Over the next 24 hours I had to have two visits, two lots of stomach tubing and mega pain killers - poor pony suffered much indignity. I honestly thought I was going to have to say goodbye to him. I believed I had been such a good horse owner, doing all the right things in the frozen weather. When I said this to the vet, he reiterated how important it was to keep him hydrated, that this was classic cold weather colic brought on by a change in feed, no grass, and lack of fluid.
By day two Hopi was perky and eating bran 'soup' but it was snowing again, the yard thermometer registered -5 and I was completely paranoid we'd be back at square one within the night. So I tried everything I could think of to get him to drink more: warm water sugared water, molassed water, honey in warm water, apple juice, and organic apple juice from the farm shop..... nope, pony wouldn't drink more than a few sips. I texted my friend Sandy Thwaites who told me about Horse Quencher so I checked the website and as soon as I could get the car out I went to our local feedstore* to buy a tub. In spite of my husband telling me it was just another whacky horse product and wouldn't work, waste of money, and some silly alternative blah blah blah. I wasn't honestly convinced myself, but thought I'd just have to give it a go and, well, what the heck, the pony might at least take a few inquisitive sips.
Lucinda, I could not believe my eyes. I went out to Hopi with my half a bucket, mixed as advised, and that pony stuck his nose in and downed the lot (then played with all the bits at the bottom and dribbled them all over my jacket. I'm sure he was smiling.) I was gobsmacked. Sandy will tell you - I rang her from the field screeching with excitement, lost for words and my husband? He had to eat his proverbial hat! Maybe you should do some serious ads while this weather is giving us such grief - especially following the H&H piece about these colics. Our pony was lucky but I wouldn't wish our 24 hour anguish on anyone. I don't know what else I can say but 'wow' and thank you.... and if any of the above rambling is of use, I'd be more than happy for you to make of my words what you may."

"My pony Minnie absolutely loves Horse Quencher! She makes some very funny noises and gets her nose all wet and then gets me wet too. Some of the Pony Club shows we have been too this year have been very hot and my mum and I have not had to worry that Minnie has not drunk enough and then suffers from dehydration and poor performance. I have used it at Pony Club camp too – Minnie doesn't like the new routine and strange water and usually stops drinking. This year she drank masses thanks to Horse Quencher. All my friends now have their ponies on HQ too. They all fight to get to the same bucket. It is our lucky mascot!'"
Ayesha Mumtaz, Pony Club, aged 10
